11/2/94
Made new side and bottom pieces. Assembled with screws. Required a
bit of fitting. Battery fits fine. Box fits rack fine. Need to add
chamfer to edges to clear radius in angle iron.
11/6/94
Chamfered outside edges of sides, ends and bottom. Drilled four 1/4
inch holes in bottom for carriage bolts that attach battery box to
battery rack. Counterbored 5/8th inch diameter 1/8th inch deep.
11/7/94
Chamfered edges of top. Applied "Nail Pro" construction adhesive to
joints and installed screws. Sanded a bit and set battery box into
battery rack. Marked hole locations for carriage bolts on battery
rack. Made new top that fits better. Box is not square.
11/9/94
Cleaned up garage. Converted from wood shop to metal shop. Commenced
design of front battery box hold-down bracket. Sanded battery box
edges a bit.

Cut parts for front battery box hold-down bracket.
11/12/94
Filled objectionable "voids" in battery box material with wood
filler. Reconfigured welder for 0.030" wire. Practiced welding.
11/13/94
Welded first hold-down bracket side piece. Cut parts and welded
second hold-down bracket side piece. Removed front battery rack
from car. Drilled holes in rack for battery box carriage bolts.
11/15/94
Welded hold-down bracket side pieces to battery rack. Cut new cross
piece for hold-down bracket and drilled holes in it.
11/16/94
Welded angle iron end pieces to cross piece. Mounted 3/8 inch bolts
in hold-down side pieces. Put battery box into rack and attached
hold-down cross piece with wing nuts. Made cross piece convex a bit
so that when wing nuts are tightened it straightens out. Rack, box
and hold-down together weighs 46 pounds.
