ELECTRIC CAR PROJECT 9311 DIARY, JUL 94
---------------------------------------------------------------------
7/3/94
Primed outside of battery box.

7/5/94
Had flywheel "turned."

7/9/94
Sold engine to "Paul Weir Porsche" (1828 Yale, Seattle, 233-9597)
for $300 cash. Picked up today by Jim. Attached adapter ring and
profile plate to motor. Installed hub and flywheel. After three
tries, did not get magic number of 0.610. Ended up about 0.600.

7/12/94
Installed clutch (new) and pressure plate. Attached transmission to
motor. Built "adapter" out of 2 by 6 to position motor-transmission
(motran) assembly on transmission jack. Is shaky side-to-side but
works. Weighed motran on bathroom scale: 309 pounds. Loosely bolted
motran into car at front mounts only. Reattached speedometer cable,
backup light switch cable and ground strap. Routed clutch cable but
did not reconnect.

7/14/94
Removed motran, disassembled all but adapter ring, rotated profile
plate 90 degrees so that motor mounting-bolt holes are downwards and
nearly symetrical to the motor centerline. Reassembled. Reused the
flywheel bolts. Could find nothing in workshop manuals saying that
they needed replacing. Rolled motran under car.

7/15/94
Replaced the three "short" bolts supplied to hold the transmission
to the profile plate with bolts one-half inch longer so that bolt
threads extend a way beyond the bolt head.

7/16/94
Loosely bolted motran into car at transmission (front) mounts only.
Reattached speedometer cable, backup light switch cable and ground
strap. Routed clutch cable but did not reconnect. Reconnected drive
shafts. Cleaned oil residue from inside right rear fender.

7/17/94
Sprayed outside of battery box with Wurth underseal.

7/18/94
Sprayed outside of battery box with Wurth underseal. Also, sprayed
two spots on body pan near transmission. Fabricated engine mounting
bracket out of wood and masonite to check dimensions. Back of motor
is not exactly parallel with rear engine support plate. It is close
enough to work and, as near as I can tell by looking at the pictures
in the workshop manuals, it should be. Might be that there is a bit
of flexing under load that squares it up.

7/19/94
Sprayed outside of battery box with Wurth underseal. Continued work
on design of motor bracket.

7/23/94
Made motor bracket out of poster board following drawing. Discovered
error in drawing. Fixed error. Fit fine. Reinstalled right fender.

7/25/94
Prepped and primed rust spots on front bumper. Applied sealer to
joint inside right fender. Sprayed undercoat along joint inside
right fender. Installed front bumper.

7/27/94
Visited Foreman's Welding to discuss fabricating motor bracket. He
(Jim Foreman) suggested changes to improve stiffness. Will have to
get parts made elsewhere as he doesn't have tools needed to bend and
cut 1/8" steel sheet. He can do the welding.
